What is Daily 5? Daily 5 consists of literacy centers that teach independence and give children the skills needed to be successful in both reading and writing. Daily 5 is made up of 5 different centers that are introduced individually. When introduced to each task, the children discuss what that center looks like, sounds like, and feels like to engage in them independently. Then, the children work on building their stamina until they are able to independently work on the task. (I am sure your child will be very excited to tell you how we practiced our stamina today!) Friday we introduced Read to Self. After all the centers have been introduced, I am then able to work with small groups while the students are engaged in their center.
Today our first newsletter went home with our first homework paper. Please be sure to mark your calendar of the upcoming events listed in the newsletter. Also, please remember to turn in any Scholastic money and forms if you haven't already.
Thank you for all your wish list donations! Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Wonderful Wednesday
Another awesome day in the Creature Classroom! Today we learned that there are 3 ways to read a book: read the pictures, read the words, and retell the story.
Reminder: If you have not turned in your paperwork from Meet the Teacher, please do so by the end of this week. Thank you!
Tomorrow we will be starting our Daily 5: Read to Self.

School Rules
We had another great day! Yesterday we read David Goes to School and came up with our class rules. Today, I introduced our rules and expectations. Here are the rules for our classroom:
Rule #1
Listen and follow directions
Rule #2
Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself
Rule #3
Work together, get along and show respect
Rule #4
Small voices inside... tall voices outside
We also talked about being a good listener and what that looks like. Sitting criss cross applesauce, listen to the speaker, and think about what is being said. We are also good listeners when we listen with:our ears, our eyes, our heart, and our brain!
Tomorrow we will read one of my favorite books, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!
Have a great night!

First Day of School
Wow! We had a GREAT first day of school! We learned so much today! We read Pete the Cat:Rocking My School Shoes and then Pete sent us on a school tour trying to find him. We never found Pete, but he did leave us a coloring sheet! Like Pete says, " It's all cool!"
We also read the book The Night Before Kindergarten. We talked about what we did the night before kindergarten and talked about making connections. Then we drew a picture of what we did.
We had such a busy day today! I hope everyone gets plenty of rest and is ready for another day of kindergarten!

School Supplies
Supplies:
I know that some of you are planning on
bringing supplies in Monday. We still need about 3 of the Primary Journal/Mead
story tablets. I noticed they had a bunch at Walmart, but they were not in the
school supply section. They are located in the office supply section with the
crayons and markers. Please let me know if you have any questions. I know that
the supply list can be a bit confusing.
Below I have posted a picture of
the journal. Please make sure it is the Primary Writing Stage 3, Early Creative
Story Tablet. Let me know if you have any other questions. Can't wait to see you
Monday!
