You will find two notes I sent home in the green folder today regarding our class t-shirt and bringing apples to school. The class t-shirt form is our class t-shirt that we will wear on Tuesdays and field trips. I am also requesting that you have your child bring 2 different kinds of apples to school by next Tuesday.
Don't forget that Scholastic Book Orders are due by Friday, September 28th.

Listen to Reading
Today we learned another Daily 5 called Listen to Reading! We practiced how to get on the computer and go to the Bolin Technology website. When students are listening to reading they are hearing examples of good literature and fluent reading. Students will also learn more words, therefore expanding their vocabulary and becoming a better reader!
Don't forget that tonight is Curriculum Night! We will have our first session starting at 6:15 until 7:00, and then the 2nd session will start at 7:30. If you are not able to make it, we will have the presentation on the Kindergarten Website.
Have a great day!

Becoming a Scientist
We had lots of fun today in kindergarten! We got to go to the Science Lab this afternoon to discuss Lab Safety! First, we watched a video about Lab Safety. Then we got to see some of the tools and equipment we will be using in the lab. Ask your student what equipment we should use to protect ourselves in the lab? (Answer: goggles and an apron) :-)
Today, we also got to meet and name our class pet! We took a vote and our new giraffe's name is Lily! Lily will be visiting everyone at home when they are the Blazing Star!
I hope everyone can make it out to curriculum night on Tuesday! We will discussing a lot of information! If you are not able to make it to one of the sessions you can find the PowerPoint on the Kindergarten website. (It will be available on Wednesday)
One last thing! If you have not turned in your Scholastic money and Meet the Teacher Night forms, please do so ASAP.
Thank you so much for all your help! It is going to be a GREAT year!

Building Stamina
What is Daily 5? Daily 5 consists of literacy centers that teach independence and give children the skills needed to be successful in both reading and writing. Daily 5 is made up of 5 different centers that are introduced individually. When introduced to each task, the children discuss what that center looks like, sounds like, and feels like to engage in them independently. Then, the children work on building their stamina until they are able to independently work on the task. (I am sure your child will be very excited to tell you how we practiced our stamina today!) Friday we introduced Read to Self. After all the centers have been introduced, I am then able to work with small groups while the students are engaged in their center.

Wonderful Wednesday
Another awesome day in the Creature Classroom! Today we learned that there are 3 ways to read a book: read the pictures, read the words, and retell the story.
Reminder: If you have not turned in your paperwork from Meet the Teacher, please do so by the end of this week. Thank you!
Tomorrow we will be starting our Daily 5: Read to Self.
