December Events

Wow!  I can not believe that tomorrow will be December 1!  This year is going by so fast! Here are a few upcoming events that I wanted to remind you of:

• CogAT testing begins on Monday, December 3.  Please make sure your child gets a lot of rest and a good breakfast in the morning each day so they can do their very best!  Also, please make sure your child arrives at school on time because we will be starting shortly after announcements. 
• Next week the "Exploration Fair" will be coming to Bolin!  It is a Science Expo sale of educational science toys, gadgets, books, models, games, rocks and minerals, kits, and supplies for science fair projects. Students will be previewing the Science Expo on Monday!
• Don't forget that Miss Pyle's last day will be Friday, December 7.

Nouns and Verbs

Yesterday, we read the book When the Leaf Blew In by Steve Metzger.  We talked about the naming words (nouns) and the action words (verbs) in the story.  We learned that naming words are people, places, and things, and action words name things that people and animals can do!  This is something that you can discuss with them when they are reading to you at home! 

Thanksgiving Feast

We had a great time at our Thanksgiving Feast yesterday!  Thank you to all the parents that provided food and a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Tipton for organizing the feast and setting up the table!

Thanksgiving Performance and Feast

Our Thanksgiving Feast will be held on Thursday, November 15^th at 1:30pm in the cafeteria.  We will be having a short performance by the kindergarten classes and then we will enjoy our feast.  Please bring any heated food between 1:10 and 1:20.  Other food may be brought at that time as well, or dropped off in the morning.  If you have any questions, please contact me!  Thanks!

Veteran's Day Heroes Parade

Today we honored our friends and family that have served our country!  

We were very lucky to have Miss Pyle's friend come talk to us about being in the Army.  

His name is Jake Marshall 

Rank: Private First Class

He is a Military Police Officer currently stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington

Next month he will be deployed to Afghanistan.

He showed us on the globe where Afghanistan is and what it looks like there.

Then we got to cheer on ALL the Veterans! 

Thank you so much to all the Veterans that have served our country!  

Fun at the Zoo

We had so much fun at the zoo!  Thank you to all the parents that volunteered their time to go with us today!  It was a beautiful day!

We are going to the zoo, zoo...

We are so excited to go to the Dallas Zoo on Friday November 9, 2012. 

Here are some things to remember:

1.     Wear your green class t-shirt

2.    Wear tennis shoes

3.    Bring a throw away sack lunch

4.    Bring a drink (like a water bottle with a lid)

Please remember to label everything with your child’s name.

Election Day!!

Piggy Tale Election

We VOTED and the Winner is the PIGS! 

We read the book “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” (the wolf’s side) and compared it to “The Three Little Pigs” (the pig’s side).  We took a VOTE to see if we believed the wolf’s side of the story or the pig’s side of the story.  Here are our results:

I believe the PIGS: 10

I believe the WOLF: 7

On October 16th we participated in a Mock Election that the 5th and 6th graders hosted for our school. It was so much fun!

Thank You for Supporting Our School

Hey Parents!

We had such a great time at the Boosterthon Fun Run! Thanks so much for coming out and supporting your students and Bolin Elementary. This past week and a half has been such a blast! We really enjoyed having the Booster team partner with us and help us meet our financial goals while at the same time promoting fitness, leadership, and character to our students. HIGHWAY USA was an awesome program! Be sure to ask your students what they learned about making good choices.

Now that the students have run the their laps we can start the collection process. Parents, we need your help!

Today, the Booster team communicated 5 things to your students.

1. We are 30% behind our goal.  In order to make it, we are leaving www.funrun.com open for you to get pledges until November 12th!

2. Everyone did a great job having fun and helping their school!

3. Please call your sponsors and thank them for making a donation.

4. Tell them how many laps they ran at the Boosterthon Fun Run.

5. Please collect all your pledges, put them in your Boosterthon envelope, and return it to your teacher by next Monday, November 12th.

There are three ways to pay:

1. Cash

2. Check- made payable to Bolin Elementary.

3. Credit Card - you can either log in with your student's access code or go to https://pledge.funrun.com/payment and enter the email address associated with the pledge.
